Do remember going a bit crazy looking for that something green which was quite obvious to the casual observer just so no one would pinch you at school?
Well, if you don’t then either you had a lot of green in your closet or that little ‘tradition’ wasn’t observed. Either way, lucky you! All I know is that every year you’ll find me wearing some green for St. Patrick’s Day. Otherwise my ‘minions’ might have too much fun trying to pinch their mama.
As much as I adore the color green, I do not have a ton of it in my wardrobe. Instead, I tend to favor reds and purples as those are colors which look best on me. And, it can be a challenge to find a shade of green that works. Deep jewel tones do best for me, so I look for the emerald and forest greens if I do pick up a top in that color.
I thought it would be fun to raid my closet and pull together a nice outfit which has a definite bit of green for St. Patrick’s Day. Amazingly, everything I am wearing was bought on sale (at Kohl’s, one of my favorite stores) and still sitting in my closet with tags. The lovely green turtleneck sweater is from Croft & Barrow (purchased last Spring on clearance), the black and red plaid skirt is by Cathy Daniels purchased this past winter, and the dark brown boots are Croft & Barrow also purchased last winter.
The gorgeous necklace I am wearing is a piece I won from Monroe and Main this winter. It came with matching earrings which I can not wear until getting my ears re-pierced. I love how the green acts as a platform for the golden colors of the necklace.
For my hair, I used the little ‘poof’ as the boys call it from last month’s Valentine’s Day outfit post and then did a quick up do in the back using a hair tie and my Celtic Cross hair clip from Lilla Rose. Basically, after creating that poof on top I pulled my hair back into a low ponytail (along the nape of the neck, made a small ‘pocket’ to insert all of my hair, and then pulled the two sides ‘in’ to conceal the hair tie using the hair clip to hold it.
Makeup was fun for me this month as I am tossing out the old and picked up some new items.
I found the Revlon Creme Gloss and the Mascara in my beauty supplies still unopened. So it was like getting a gift unexpectedly. The NYC palette of eye shadow was picked up at our local Walmart for $5 and has colors that are supposed to compliment brown eyes.
Originally, I had thought about green nails and even picked up a cute shade of green polish, but elected to go with a wine colored polish for this outfit.
Overall, I am feeling pretty good about this outfit pulled together from pieces purchased over the past year. I’m thinking it will be a great one for going to church or out on a date night. Although, I might even want to wear it just to feel pretty.
How do you normally dress for St. Patrick’s Day?
Would you wear this outfit just ON the day or for other winter into spring days?
